OK, so I said I may do a travel blog, but it's probably obvious that I haven't done so, so apologies to those who were expecting it.
Anyway, it's been 2 weeks since the hellish 24-hour journey and it's been an amazing experience. For those who don't know, I'm part of the Jamaica Project, a group of 23 people, mostly young people, and we've been fundraising for about a year to partake in a missionary project near to Ocho Rios, spread between three sites - Colegate Basic School, Pineapple Basic School, and a house in the village Exchange. I'll give more details about this later, but mostly we've been doing renovation, with a little construction mixed in. At Colegate, we built a dining room for the students to use, as well as refurbishing the classrooms, outside walls and toilet block; at pineapple, we renovated several classrooms (I even left my mark by painting some pictures on a few of the walls - there we go, dA's reached a school in Jamaica

) and at the house in Exchange, owned by an old man named Bob, he was given new walls, doors and a floor, as his house was effectively just a shack.
But it's not just been work here. We've also been getting to see the island and its culture, and we've done some amazing things - crossed the Blue Mountains in a coach driven by Victor, the world's most legendary driver; climbed Dunn's River Falls, 500 metres of rocky waterfalls leading into the sea; snorkelled in a reef just off the coast of Ocho... the list goes on. It's been an amazing experience for everyone involved and we've really changed the lives of the local people.
We're travelling home on Monday. When I get back I'll post a full account of the trip, and (when i get them) I'll put up some photos too.
Til then!
